Phenolic Cotton Cloth Sheet

Raw Materials and Manufacturing Process

  • Raw Materials: Primarily composed of cotton cloth and phenolic resin. The cotton cloth serves as a reinforcing material, providing the laminate with toughness and mechanical strength. Phenolic resin, a thermosetting resin, offers excellent adhesion, heat resistance, water resistance, and insulation. It firmly bonds the cotton layers together to form a cohesive laminate with specific properties.
  • Manufacturing Process: The cotton cloth is first impregnated with phenolic resin, allowing the resin to fully penetrate the fabric fibers. The resin-soaked cloth is then dried to remove solvents and moisture. Multiple dried layers are stacked together and hot-pressed under specific temperature and pressure conditions. During this process, the resin undergoes a curing reaction, bonding the cotton layers into a solid sheet. The pressed laminate is then cut, trimmed, and finished into the required sizes and shapes.

Product Features

  • Excellent Mechanical Properties: The laminate offers high strength and hardness, especially strong adhesive bonding between layers, making it resistant to delamination and cracking. It can withstand significant external forces and impacts, making it suitable for manufacturing various mechanical parts.
  • Superior Electrical Properties: It provides good insulation under normal conditions, effectively preventing current leakage. This helps reduce the risk of short circuits, electric shocks, or other electrical safety hazards, making it ideal for use as insulating structural components in electrical equipment.
  • Good Heat Resistance: With a thermal insulation class of E (up to 120°C), the laminate maintains stable performance in moderate temperature environments and is not prone to deformation or damage from heat.
  • Moderate Water and Chemical Resistance: Thanks to the inherent properties of phenolic resin, the laminate can perform well in humid environments or when exposed to certain chemicals. It resists water absorption and chemical corrosion to a certain extent.

  • Good Machinability: The material can be processed using lathes, stamping, trimming, drilling, sawing, and milling to create parts of various shapes and dimensions, meeting the needs of different application scenarios.

Applications

  • Mechanical Applications: Used for manufacturing vibration-resistant and wear-resistant mechanical components, such as cotton-based gear bushings, guide wheels, etc. Its excellent mechanical strength and wear resistance contribute to improved stability and service life of machinery.
  • Electrical Applications: Widely used in motors and electrical equipment as insulating structural components, such as insulation plates, terminal boards, and brackets. Its excellent electrical and mechanical properties ensure the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems.
  • Other Applications: Also used in areas requiring thermal and sound insulation. In addition, it can be used for making specialty craft items or decorative pieces with specific performance requirements.

Precautions

After machining, the phenolic cotton cloth laminate is prone to moisture absorption and usually requires impregnation with insulating varnish for moisture protection.

While it offers some heat resistance, prolonged exposure to high temperatures should be avoided to prevent degradation of its properties.

During storage and use, avoid scratching the surface with sharp objects to maintain both its insulation performance and appearance.
